october i was waiting for you. (h.a)

october rain; i
feel as if i should cast a spell to keep away the shivers
that threaten my back like frost fingers.
pull my sleeves over my hands and watch my reflection in the cold glass
she is staring and sallow and behind her
are street lamps and the autumn night.
the block of flats across the road is dark and her eyes glint
a host of curtained windows stare back. october
steeps me in melancholy like rich dark wine or
fake blood stuck between my teeth. cold and dark
and beautiful. gaps between the leaves show a golden moon
and cars splash the gutter; rainfall grows louder and for the first time
i am
strangely, surreally, at peace.

autumn has come again.
